About Lisa Wilson
BACP Registered Counsellor in York and Wetherby
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling awarded with Distinction from York St John University. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - registration number 374949.
I have experience of working at a local mental health charity where I worked with a very broad range of clients and presenting issues.
I currently work as a freelance counsellor at York Mind on the Action Towards Inclusion Project which supports unemployed individuals to overcome difficulties and enables them to work towards job searching, training, education and ultimately employment. I also facilitate a weekly peer support group at York Mind which covers aspects of mental health.
I previously worked at York Mind for nearly 3 years as a Volunteer Mentor, providing one to one support for people recovering from a variety of mental health conditions using goal focused coaching. I encouraged clients to identify meaningful and realistic goals as part of their journey towards recovery. I helped clients utilise their strengths and internal resources to identify and achieve these goals and overcome the blocks preventing them from moving forward. I also spent a year facilitating an assertiveness course at the Kyra Women’s Project in York to enable women to develop their communication skills.
Prior to training as a counsellor, I spent over 20 years working in marketing and IT. As such, I understand the pressures and challenges of working in business environments, interpersonal difficulties and barriers to effective communication.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I am committed to furthering my professional development. I have completed training in:
